The picture itself, including Lily's hair, started out much lighter, but then I darkened the whole thing since their relationship is rather tragic. Dark=gloomy...that sort of thing.

Yeah, I suppose the whole series would be screwed up if it happened that way...but in a webchat on July 31st, or something, I think it was, JKR was talking about the series to fans and answering questions and stuff, and she actually said that if Snape hadn't been so obsessed with the Dark Arts, then Lily might have come to love him romantically. -->[link]
